BAGHDAD, June 24 (Xinhua) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud emphasized on Tuesday the need to prevent the escalation of conflicts and military actions, according to a statement by al-Sudani's media office.
The two leaders held a phone conversation, during which they discussed bilateral relations and the latest regional developments.
They underscored the importance of exercising restraint, prioritizing dialogue, and halting the continued disregard for international laws and resolutions, the statement said.
Both sides stressed the vital role of international and United Nations agencies in de-escalating tensions and restoring stability, it added.
Their conversation took place as a ceasefire between Israel and Iran came into effect on Tuesday, following Israel's large-scale airstrikes on multiple locations in Iran on June 13, which killed senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and civilians. In retaliation, Iran launched several waves of missile and drone attacks on Israel, causing casualties and significant damage. ■
